The Frankfort Square Park District is proud to announce it has been named the 2007 National Gold Medal Award winner in the Class V Division, serving a population of less than 25,000. This annual award is presented by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) for excellence in park and recreation management. Five agencies across the nation are named annually, and the Frankfort Square Park District was the only Illinois recipient of the award this year.
The Frankfort Square Park District has achieved finalist status for this award four times over the last five years, and the prestigious Gold Medal was presented during the annual NRPA Congress on September 26, 2007, held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Accepting the award were Jim Randall, Executive Director, and Ken Blackburn, Vice-President, Board of Commissioners.
The Gold Medal honors park and recreation agencies throughout the United States that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management, citizen support systems, environmental stewardship, and program development. Each agency is judged on its ability to address the needs of those it serves, following a comprehensive assessment of agency goals and accomplishments.
This award acknowledges the residents who support the park district in all it does. In addition, special thanks go to the Board of Commissioners, staff, Summit Hill School District 161, Lincoln-Way High School District 210, Frankfort Township, and the Villages of Frankfort and Tinley Park for their hard work and dedicated efforts in making Frankfort Square a great place to live.
