Parks & Facilities Map 
 This exceptional outdoor facility includes a neighborhood playground, preschool playground, and will soon house the Island Prairie Nature Center. Island Prairie was established in 1990, creating an eight-acre retention pond that is annually stocked for fishing by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Island Prairie was seeded and established with native Illinois grasses in 1991, offering a glimpse of our native setting, which is rapidly disappearing in Illinois.
The park district’s 1.9 mile bike path/walking trail begins at Island Prairie Park along Aaron Drive. Residents can enjoy the sights and sounds of wildlife and native plantings as they travel the trail, linking Island Prairie Park to Indian Boundary South, Kingston, and Hoffman Parks.
The park district secured a $400,000 OSLAD grant for the addition of the Island Prairie Park Nature Center.  The nature center/classroom will be located on the grounds of the Community Center/Island Prairie Park. Additional improvements will include 90+ mature, 5” caliper native Illinois tree species, an interpretive garden, gazebo, boardwalk, canoe and kayak launch, and an osprey platform. With the addition of this facility, children and adults alike will be able to learn about the ecological and environmental benefits of the natural areas within our community.
As the center of indoor park activity, the Park District Community Center is the administrative headquarters of the district. Home to the very popular early childhood programs and numerous park programs, there are activities for people of all ages to enjoy. Meeting space is available for community groups at this site. The expansive community room and Board Room can be rented for a nominal fee, and are popular choices for hosting graduation parties, birthday parties, weddings, and other family events. Full kitchen facilities are available to all rental parties.
